Chaos Groups – V-Ray 3.5 Roadmap
ChaosGroup recently released their roadmap for Vray 3.5, looking through the list there look to be some big improvements. It’s hard to pick a stand out feature as they all look great, but certainly Resumable Renders could be a life saver for those times when renders crash, the power gets cut or Windows decide to update itself over night! Adaptive lighting as we posted about just recently looks to be a big improvement and something we will look forward to testing.
Coming soon in V-Ray 3.5 for 3ds Max
V-RAY INTERACTIVE PRODUCTION RENDERING (IPR)
The V-Ray production renderer can be used in interactive rendering mode.
V-RAY RESUMABLE RENDERING
V-Ray will save its current render state in the course of the rendering to allow it to resume from this state in case of interruption. This can be used either as backup for crashed renders or to complete fast preview renders with progressive sampler.
ADAPTIVE LIGHTS
A new method for accelerating the rendering of scenes with many light sources.
alSURFACE MATERIAL
Anders Langlands’ popular alSurface material is now available in V-Ray.
MDL MATERIALS
Import and render materials created with NVIDIA’s Material Definition Language.
VRAY SCENE NODE
Allows to bring in and render .vrscene files exported from 3ds Max or other modeling applications. In difference from VRayProxy nodes, the .vrscene files can store both geometry and materials.
LIVE VR RENDERING
Render directly to VR with V-Ray GPU and preview on HTC Vive and Oculus Rift headsets.
V-RAY GPU IMPROVEMENTS
Support for light directionality, the VRayStochasticFlakesMtl material, VRayAerialPerspective, reduced GPU texture memory requirements, image resolution can be changed during ActiveShade session, selection of objects and materials in the V-Ray frame buffer, view navigation in the frame buffer, DOF focus selection in the frame buffer.
RENDER ELEMENT PRECISION
Set the default bit-depth for individual render elements. For example, you can set Diffuse to 16-bit and ZDepth to 32-bit.
ONLINE LICENSING
The new Online Licensing Service provides the option for remote activation of licenses and spares the hardware programming and shipping process. Please note that the V-Ray license server will not be a part of the installation package of V-Ray for 3ds Max anymore. The License server will be available as a separate download.
